LOCATION

Oregon Coast

Located along the northern Oregon Coast, Waechter’s Dune House balances sensitivity to the local landscape and building traditions with a timeless, iconic form. Clad in weathering cedar shingles and paired with a restrained palette of oak flooring, paneling, and minimal detailing, the home has a calm, carved, monolithic presence centered around a skylit courtyard and framed views of the coastal dunescape.

The editorial styling drew inspiration from a Nordic-meets-PNW sensibility, pairing iconic European vintage silhouettes with local artists and sculptors, layered natural textures, and restrained sculptural gestures that allowed the architecture to remain the focal point.

Vintage pieces by designers such as Massimo Vignelli, Arne Vodder, Marcel Breuer, and Rainer Daumiller helped bring warmth, patina, and human scale to the home’s monolithic simplicity.

Featured in Architectural Record (2025). Recipient of a 2024 AIA Oregon Honor Award, recognized by Sunset Magazine in both Best Creative Coastal and the 2025 Sunset Western Home & Design Awards, and finalist in the 2026 Architizer A+ Awards.
